Dr Sayan Basu
Dr Sayan Basu
Dr Sayan Basu is the Prof. D Balasubramanian Chair of Eye Research, the Director of Prof. Brien Holden Eye Research Centre (BHERC), and Director of Centre for Ocular Regeneration (CORE). He is a clinician-scientist and a key opinion leader in the field of Cornea and Ocular Surface and is internationally recognized for his innovative breakthroughs in corneal stem cell therapy. In the clinic, his expertise is in managing complex and high-risk cases, particularly those with previously failed or complicated corneal or ocular surface surgeries. His specific research interests include dry eye disease, scarless corneal wound healing and stem cell therapy, in collaboration with renowned national and international scientists.
After completing his medical education Dr Basu did his long-term cornea and anterior segment fellowship at LVPEI, Hyderabad, India and subsequently joined the institute in 2010. He received his research training in stem cell biology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, PA, USA in 2012-13. Dr Basu has been honoured with the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and serves on the editorial board of several prestigious scientific journals such as The Ocular Surface, the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Current Eye Research, Seminars in Ophthalmology, and the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has published more than 140 scientific papers, and his work is highly cited by researchers in the ophthalmology and visual sciences community.

Professor Norihiko Yokoi, M.D., Ph.D.
Professor Norihiko Yokoi, M.D., Ph.D., is a distinguished Clinician and Researcher at the Department of Ophthalmology, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Kyoto, Japan. Professor Yokoi's primary interests focus on ocular surface diseases and dry eye (DE), with cutting-edge research aimed at the physiological and dynamic aspects of precorneal tear film. Professor Yokoi's work has greatly contributed the development of the concepts of tear film oriented diagnosis (TFOD) and tear film oriented therapy (TFOT) for DE, and has brought forth the significant importance of 'decreased wettability DE' (DWDE), a DE subtype that is oftentimes overlooked. Professor Yokoi has co-developed numerous non-invasive diagnostic tools for tear film research, such as meniscometry, video-interferometry, and most recently, video-keratography, and he established cutting-edge surgical techniques prevalently used in Japan for the treatment of conjunctival diseases associated with DE, including conjunctivochalasis and superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis. Professor Yokoi has authored, or coauthored, more than 160 scientific publications and textbook chapters in the field of ophthalmology, has been selected as the pathophysiology expert in the field by the Tear Film Subcommittee of the Dry Eye Workshop II (DEWSII), and is a Council Member of the Asia Dry Eye Society and President of the Japan Dry Eye Society. Professor Yokoi has been an Editorial Board Member of the journals The Ocular Surface and the Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology.
